Vidya: The Living School, Assam
Vidya – The Living School, located in Subahi, Dhemaji (Assam), is a unique educational space that blends academics with nature, life skills, and emotional well-being. Founded by Dr. Pranjal Buragohain, the school goes beyond textbooks to nurture holistic development. Set amidst rice fields and forest landscapes, students learn in open-air bamboo classrooms and engage in hands-on experiences like gardening, silk farming, and eco-friendly construction. With a focus on sustainability, purpose, and self-reliance, Vidya offers children — many from underprivileged backgrounds — the tools not just to succeed in exams, but to thrive in life and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Vidya Vriksh Gurukul
Uttar Pradesh
Vidya Vriksh Gurukul is a community-based learning center in Kishan Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, co-founded in 2023 by Tarini Khurana, along with members of the Bhalla and Anand families. It offers preschool and after-school programs focused on foundational literacy, numeracy, socio-emotional learning, and critical thinking. Led by Tarini, an educator and former Teach For India Fellow, the Gurukul emphasizes local empowerment by training youth as teachers and engaging parents in the learning process. The initiative blends academic growth with community-driven support, creating a nurturing space where children can thrive both in school and beyond.
